This Privacy Policy describes how RaveMate ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application ("App").

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information you provide directly

  • Account information: Name, email address, and password when you create an account.
  • Profile information: Username, bio, profile photo, social media links (Instagram, Twitter, Spotify), and music genre preferences.
  • User-generated content: Photos you upload, captions, comments, and messages you send.

1.2 Information collected automatically

  • Location data: Precise GPS coordinates when you use location features such as event check-in and live location sharing. Location is only collected when you actively use these features, and you can control your location visibility in Settings.
  • Device information: Push notification token to deliver notifications to your device.
  • Usage data: Event attendance, check-ins, and interaction with other users (friend requests, photo tags, group memberships).

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account.
  • Enable location sharing with friends during events (subject to your privacy settings).
  • Display your profile to other users based on your search and location visibility preferences.
  • Send push notifications for messages, friend requests, photo tags, and event updates.
  • Allow you to upload and share photos with friends.
  • Enable group chats and direct messages between users.
  • Provide offline functionality by caching certain data locally on your device.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as follows:

  • With other users: Your profile, location (based on your visibility settings), photos you share, and messages are visible to users you connect with.
  • With service providers: We use Supabase (supabase.com) as our backend database and authentication provider. Supabase processes data on our behalf in accordance with their Data Processing Agreement.
  • With mapping services: We use Mapbox (mapbox.com) for map rendering and offline map downloads. Your location is not shared with Mapbox directly; maps are rendered locally.
  • As required by law: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process.

4. Location Data

RaveMate requests access to your device location for the following purposes:

  • Check-in: Recording your location when you check into an event.
  • Live location sharing: Sharing your real-time location with friends during events (only when enabled and based on your visibility setting: hidden, friends only, or visible to all).
  • Background location: The App may use background location to update your position during events. You can disable this at any time in your device settings.

You can change your location visibility or turn off location sharing at any time in the App settings.

5. Camera and Photos

We request access to your camera to scan QR codes for ticket verification and friend connections. We request access to your photo library to allow you to upload photos to your profile and event galleries. Photos you upload are stored on our servers and are visible to other users based on your privacy settings.

6. Push Notifications

We use push notifications to inform you about messages, friend requests, photo tag requests, group invitations, and event-related updates. You can disable push notifications at any time in your device settings.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it.
